Construction work at the memorial
Extensive construction work is currently taking place at the memorial. In addition to the preparations for the new permanent exhibition, fire protection and energy measures are being implemented.
We are trying to keep the restrictions for visitors as low as possible.
The third floor with the original study of the last chief of the MfS Dresden district administration, Major General Horst Böhm, will remain closed until probably 1 November. During this time, admission to the memorial is also reduced for full-paying visitors. Other conditions apply for groups that have booked a guided tour or a project.
On the way to the new permanent exhibition
The planned permanent exhibition is intended to highlight the uniqueness of the historical site. Political persecution in the Soviet Occupation Zone and the GDR from 1945 to 1989 and the repressive and surveillance apparatus of the Ministry of State Security will be the focus of the future exhibition. The reference to fundamental and human rights will form the central level of reflection, allowing the connection to current political and social developments to be established.
At the same time, the new permanent exhibition wants to address different target groups through several levels and variations of reception and also reach the growing number of foreign visitors through multilingualism. It must do justice to the difficult task of preserving the dignity of the historical site while at the same time conveying the complex contents in a current and contemporary presentation.
