"Erkenntnis durch Erinnerung e.V." is the association of the Bautzner Straße Memorial in Dresden.

The Landesamt für Denkmalpflege Sachsen secured the investigation institute under protection in 1994. In December of the same year the empty prison was opened to the public again. Thousands of visitors came over the course of two days to get one of the conditions of detention in the detention center during the tour.

The vacancy of the loss of liability in the following years led to frost damage and vandalism.

In 1997 the association "Erkenntnis durch Erinnerung e.V." was founded. Two years later a contract was signed with the city.

Since 2001, the monument on Bautzner Straße Dresden has been funded by the Saxon Memorials Foundation.
